Towards the end Future seals the deal, saying "will you love me for poor? I'm searching for my soul." Basically saying he's soulless and asking her is she ready to stick around through everything he's going to do.
While Future is just continuously reassuring her "he needs love and affection too". She's ready to allow someone to possess her and overtake her, hoping to gain something from it. Future is playing the devil, and Rihanna is playing this desperate girl. Future is continuously bargaining throughout the song. Like with her record deal she has obviously allowed something to possess her and lower her moral standards. Rihanna is only saying this thinking she can gain something from him controlling her. Rihanna says "boy I wanna be in your possession." She wants his spirit to be with/in her, spiritually saying she wants to be possessed by him since he's claiming he can only love her and give her affection. Both think they're getting over on one another. They're like pawns in Satan's game of chess.
Both Rihanna and Future are selling themselves to one another. As for me, I'd say that we know the physical meaning of Rihanna's song sex= love & affection. The spiritual context of this song can be understood in many ways. Its giving her a weak level of control, or "impressing" young minds to believe sex= love & affection. She's giving it the appearance of love and affection, but in truth is saying my love and affection is the only thing I feel I can offer you, which is repressive. i dont wanna give you the wrong impression i need love and affection and i hope im not sounding too desperate i need love and affection love, love, love, love and affection love, love. Unfortunately Rihanna is doing her usual gig, promoting sex and her body as an object. Its almost like getting high, its a temporary euphoria, but you do crash afterwards. However, it makes people feel good, and feel loved, for that temporary moment. Which people normally equate sex with love, especially young people who don't understand the value of making metaphysical connections with other people. However, in another part is saying sex=love and affection. This whole song physically is in part saying, we're human beings with deep emotional needs and we need love and affection. Then she slips in the word maybe, which means I might demand a lot from you, once I get you (which isn't limited to stress, drama, or the consequences of a relationship). Basically claiming that she's a simple lover, almost to entice a guy who probably doesn't want to commit to anything serious. If you look at it my way, its like he's enticing the female as well "saying I'm emotional like you too, I won't play you." Rihanna goes into the song saying "Oh baby I'm not asking for the world MAYBE". He says " I don't want to give you the wrong impression, I need love and affection." Which is simple to understand, he's admitting that he's a human being with emotional needs, despite being a man or a player. One being physical and one being spiritual.įor the physical interpretation, Rihanna has Future singing the hook to this song. In my perspective songs can have dual meanings.
